Friends in Mount Shasta: Road Trip

Last week we embarked on a four-day road trip up to Mount Shasta and back, there to visit with long-time friends Bruce and Deborah, and their beloved Wally-dog. All three welcomed us enthusiastically although Wally wins for Best Kisses. Thanks to my personal GPS, John, for most direct route from Palo Alto.

Truth to tell the travel with Jim was stressful so we didn't do much more than visit, feast, indulge in sangria, pet Wally, drive up the mountain past the tree line: that is one enormous ex volcano!

Bruce and Deborah shared the fruits of their garden and trees with us: cherry toms (two kinds), big toms, lettuce, eggplant, broad beans, string beans (I think), cukes, cherries and apple butter. Jim and I got a super-fine dose of country living and, yes, we were a bit envious.

I especially relished time with good friends who have been part of our lives for so long. Jim wasn't always sure he knew Bruce and Deborah yet was pleasant, appreciative company. He and Wally bonded. When Deborah played guitar beautifully, Jim was riveted, delighted. Music is close to his soul. Bruce on banjo good, too.

Home now. Jim playing chess this afternoon.
