More on traveling with Jim and dementia

Regular readers here (all two of you, if I'm fortunate) will recall my concern over the five-night trip to Santa Fe in July. I wondered if traveling was too stressful for Jim as he seemed anxious during that sojourn although he adored the opera as well as wandering around the lovely, charming, arty Town (the good news and the bad news). Overall, I felt the anxiety a fairly even trade for enjoyment. My thought going into that trip was: short trips easier for Jim than long trips.

Then comes our September Fiji adventure: two very full days and nights of travel followed by ten nights in the epitomic tropical paradise cliche. The travel was okay, Jim was good with it. After arrival in Laucala, Jim spent two days wondering where we were and how we got there. After which he reveled entirely in the island and was in best mood in years.

Now I'm thinking, if it's not local familiar travel (Point Reyes, Sonoma, Napa, Big Sur), longer may well be better.
