Logistics

Logistically, this move of Jim into a dedicated dementia residence is proving a bureaucratic boondoggle and annoyingly difficult. And that’s BEFORE Jim even gets involved. Whereupon I’ll likely look back on these times as a happy fairytale.

The State requires Jim’s primary physician complete a 14-page form before he can be accepted at the new facility. Then, there’s a 45-minute assessment interview with Jim. Given his delight in talking, that will stretch to an hour at minimum. I had to complete a 15-page admission form. The doc needs to write a letter to management at the Old Farts Home recommending Jim’s move to a higher-care residence.

All must happen without Jim knowing about the move. I have a story to explain the assessment interview.

Then, there is furniture to buy, deliver and assemble in some cases (two-seater sofa, sideboard with storage, bedside table, dresser, recliner that doesn’t look like a recliner, side table, table lamp, new linens (house linens could be had but they aren’t nice enough), electric tea kettle, basic TV with ONE remote, etc. Pack and move things from our apartment (desk, chair, floor lamp, bedside lamp, some mugs, glasses, plates, bowls, utensils, art and posters, chess set and books, various oddments (pens, paper, pencils, ruler, scissors) bathroom kit and supplies, etc.

Will hire TaskRabbit for furniture assembly and art/poster hanging.  Will hire a moving company for the stuff coming from our apartment.
