During our recent move from a three-bedroom house to a one-bedroom apartment, I was apprised of some painful present-day truths. To whit:
-- Jim's grandmother's Havilland Chrysanthemum bone china settings for twelve, plus serving bowls, platters, many other pieces ... apparently unwanted.
-- Ditto the blue pansy tea set inherited from my aged aunt.
Antique stores, consignment shops, estate liquidators -- they don't want this fabulous stuff. They say they can't sell it. OK, I wasn't so hep about selling as I was wanting a home for these beloved pieces of many years.
Goodwill will accept it. Accept it, sigh. Sometimes I think about what that might look like on the other end: Fragile tea set, right, need one of those. Ohhh, matching service for 12, wait til my girlfriends see this.
Yes, the Havilland set of several hundred pieces went to Goodwill. I could not send my aunt's tea set there, just could not. So, I have it still and smile therefore.
