Rebuilt Patio, Spring and Missiles

The Old Farts Home (OFH) decided to rebuild our patio just about the same time the rains came. Brilliant. As a consequence it took three weeks to tear down the old then rebuild the new patio, three months for the wood to dry before it could be stained. Plus another week to re-do some of the work to make the Fire Department happy.

Finally I am getting around again to garden therapy: rehanging planters, moving plant stands back out into the sun, mourning the plants that didn't overwinter, marveling over the sturdy specimens that did so, and browsing nursery websites with acquisitive longings. Lots of work to do; but, first, shopping! Ordered perennials from Digging Dog in Mendocino County and Joy Creek in Oregon. Picking up annuals and assorted others this week from local nurseries. Nasturtiums, petunias, creeping Jenny, lantana, etc. delighted to be mucking around again with plants and earth and water.

So, that chirps me right up, boy howdy.

Continue to make travel plans which seem always to be in flux. Just now, the schedule looks to be:

May -- Mexico, Costa Alegre, south of Puerto Vallarta by 120 kilometers http://alamandas.com/
July -- Maui with godless child and family https://www.grandwailea.com/
August -- Mexico again, Cabo (not our fave Mexican locale but an easy, short non-stop from SFO which counts for a lot with Jim in tow) https://www.rosewoodhotels.com/en/las-ventanas-los-cabos
September -- Quebec and Montreal with foliage! https://www.manoirhovey.com/en

Trying to decide if we could manage a non-stop across the pond to London mid-November and Xmas. Those 11-hour flights plus jet lag are killers for us, we burn two expensive days in recovery. It surely would be our final long-haul flight.

As I tap this a news alert blipped across my screen to inform me North Korea launched a ballistic missile at Japan today. Two egomaniacs in power, one in the U.S. The other in NK; my heart shudder-thumps and my brain boggles. Two juvenile pugilists in the ring

My little worries pushed aside. Jim is the biggest worry for me.

  2. I'd love to tell you how to subscribe, Leah, but haven't clue. As poor as that is, I at least am gratified to have a compadre in non- techies. I resist posting link on FB because it feels to attention-begging, if that makes sense.
