Thankfully Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving week in Point Reyes at Inverness was mighty fine. It is, after all, our favorite place; made more halcyon by Pat and Lan, Bruce and Deborah, Marcia and Pete. Our Wildwood home for the nonce: http://pointreyesvacationrentals.com/property/wildwood/

Our meals were amazing: fabulous cioppino; buttermilk pancakes and bacon; pulled pork on polenta; cheese and ham-scrambled eggs; artichoke lasagna; roast turkey with gravy and stuffing, Brussels sprouts, roasted golden beets and chèvre and (failed) cranberry-curd tart; smoked salmon and cream cheese for lunch and snacks; fruit salad; cheeses and dates.  Er, some wine (!) and Newkie Brown. The kitchen and its furnishings weren't the best but we made do just fine.

Sure, there was hiking, wildlife viewing (elk), dairy farm, Marconi Museum, bookstore (!), guitar strumming, harmonica playing, singing, scrabble and a great deal of laughing. Reminiscing, too. Also, Jim fell out of bed at 4am and one of our number fell in the tub breaking a rib. It's not a holiday sans walking wounded.

Jim hiked up Mt. Vision with Pete and Bruce but needed help walking down. That was an unwelcome revelation, yet a gift from Bruce and Pete. I hiked nowhere except in town and loved my sofa time reading.

Rowdy musical evenings with roaring fires and much tolerance.

Our friends -- the very best.
